Their New Home: New Homeowners Attracted to the Royal Club for Golf, Connection to Outdoors

Making a move is a big deal for anyone.

But imagine, if you will, being the first homeowners to make a commitment to a new neighborhood. To be the first home on the block and setting the stage for what will eventually be a development that will include 292 homes.

What motivates a person or a couple to make such a huge leap?

Rick and Trudy Tepe: Bringing Together Three Generations

Tepe Family

For Rick and Trudy Tepe, the journey to becoming one of the first homeowners in The Royal Club began with reading an article about the new development and championship golf course, the Royal Golf Club in a local newspaper.

The retired couple, currently living in Woodbury, had always dreamed of living on or near a golf course.

“When we learned that Annika Sörenstam and Arnold Palmer had designed this course, it said something to us. This is going to be someplace very special,” says Rick. “I don’t know how it will rank over time, but I believe it will be among the top 10 in the state. It’s a beautiful, challenging course and we wanted to be part of it. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Now, their dream is coming true. The Tepe’s will move into their new one-story, villa townhome, built by Gorham Companies, sometime this summer.

While the Tepe’s are empty nesters and spend several months a year in the Fort Myers area of Florida, it was important to them to not only stay in the East Metro to be close to their three adult children, but to have enough room for their nine grandkids (so far) to stay over with grandpa and grandma.

“This was the first time that we built a home from scratch,” says Rick. “We used to own a three-level home. We didn’t need all of that space any more. With this home, we focused on what really matters to us now – beautiful views of the Royal Golf Club course, a walk-out basement with a patio, a screened-in porch for summer entertaining, and a game room for the kids.”

For avid golfers Rick and Trudy, being part of a community that values the importance of golf and the outdoors was a key selling point. The couple not only golf together as a couple with friends, but they enjoy golfing with their adult children and their grandchildren. They’re planning to become golfing members of the Royal Golf Club. In addition, they enjoy taking long walks together, kayaking, and working out at the fitness center located in their Florida community – activities they hope to enjoy at The Royal Club and the Royal Golf Club.

“Whether we’re here in Minnesota or at our other home in Florida,” says Rick, “We love being outside. By the way, we love Arnie’s restaurant and the beautiful view you get from inside or out on the patio.”

“That’s one of the reasons that choosing a lot and home with a fantastic view was so important to us,” Rick adds, “feeling connected to the outdoors is so important to us. It’s what inspires us.”

Josh and Kady Stoll: Raising Family

The Royal Club is also a place where a young family can enjoy their time together. Not just golfing, but eating meals together at Arnie’s, the new restaurant at the Royal Golf Club, and playing basketball, pickle ball and other activities.

“We are looking forward to getting to know our neighbors, making new friends, and meeting other couples,” says Josh Stoll. “But most of all, spending time together as a family in our new home at the Royal Club.”

Josh and his wife Kady are the proud parents of Harper, who is three, and Hudson, who is one year old. The family is building their first home – a 4,400 square foot, five-bedroom, five bath home through Custom One in Phase One of The Royal Club.

“We’ve never built a home before, but we were very impressed (and reassured) by Todd Polifka, the president and owner of Custom One homes.” Josh says.

Josh, who is an account executive with NXC Imaging, a medical imaging equipment distributor, and Kady, who works at 3M, learned about the Royal Golf Club through their friend Hollis Cavner, the founder of the Royal Golf Club.

“When we learned that Hollis was involved with transforming Tartan Park, we were immediately interested in hearing more details about his plan,” says Josh.

“From there, everything we heard was exciting!” adds Kady. “From the golf course and clubhouse renovations, to the addition of the Short Course to the plans for developing the resident areas. It was something we really wanted to be a part of.”

As avid golfers, Josh and Kady try to play as often as they can (with two small children!). The couple, who currently own a home on the TPC Twin Cities course in Blaine, intend to become members of the Royal Golf Club and sharpen their golf handicaps. Kady, who played in college for Gardner-Webb University, has a handicap of 5.0 and Joshua has a handicap of 12.8.

“In choosing to make our home at the Royal Club, the golf course and facilities were really important to us,” says Josh. “We want a course that is well maintained, has nice practice facilities, and where the staff is both kind and attentive.”

“The clubhouse renovation is beautiful,” says Kady. “We’ve eaten at Arnie’s as well, and it has great food. The golf shop is well organized and features some great clothing with the Royal Golf Club logo prominently displayed. Overall, we’ve been really impressed with everything we’ve seen so far.”
