The 2018 ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M Coming to The Royal Golf Club

Strongest Field in Women’s NCAA Golf in Years

Mark your calendars: The 2018 ANNIKA Intercollegiate golf tournament, presented by 3M, is coming to the Royal Golf Club.

This will be the first major golf tournament hosted by the Royal Golf Club and it will feature the top collegiate women’s golfers in the United States. The tournament, sponsored by 3M, as well as Rolex, Mastercard, AHEAD and the Fred Haskins Commission, is entering its fifth year. It’s scheduled for September 16-19, 2018 and is open to the public to view.

Conducted by the ANNIKA Foundation, golf Hall-of-Famer Annika Sörenstam’s charitable organization, the tournament will feature golfers from nine of the top 10 teams in the most recent Golfweek / Sagarin rankings, including:

  • Alabama (1)
  • Arkansas (2 and 2017 ANNIKA Intercollegiate champion)
  • UCLA (3)
  • Duke (4)
  • USC (5 and 2015 and 2016 ANNIKA Intercollegiate champion)
  • Stanford (6)
  • Texas (7)
  • South Carolina (9 and 2014 ANNIKA Intercollegiate champion)
  • Northwestern (10)
  • Arizona (12)
  • Oklahoma State (17)
  • Minnesota (Host school)

“With nine of the top 10 and 10 of the top 12, this is likely our strongest field to date,” said Sörenstam, the 1991 NCAA Women’s Champion, in a recent press statement.

Annika Sorenstam follow through

In its initial season, the Royal Golf Club 18 hole championship golf course was designed by legendary golf professionals Annika Sörenstam and Arnold Palmer. The front nine, known as The Queen’s Nine, was designed by Annika Sörenstam, and the back nine (The King’s Nine) was designed by Arnold Palmer. The project was Sörenstam’s first U.S. golf course design. Rolling hills, mature trees and abundant wildlife provide a scenic backdrop for what promises to be a wonderful new home for the event.

Since the inaugural ANNIKA Foundation tournament — the 2009 ANNIKA Invitational USA – 32 ANNIKA event alumnae have earned LPGA cards. And while the on-course action is important, off-course lessons pertaining to nutrition, fitness, the college application process and more are integral to tournaments’ “More Than Golf” experiences.

Each year, the ANNIKA Foundation also conducts five major golf events for juniors on four continents: the ANNIKA Invitational USA presented by Rolex, ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills in China, ANNIKA Invitational Europe, ANNIKA Cup in Sweden and ANNIKA Invitational Latin America in Argentina.

The 2018 ANNIKA Intercollegiate, presented by 3M tournament is open to the public, and all golfers, in particular junior golfers are invited to attend. Viewing the tournament is free of charge, and everyone is welcome to attend and support his or her favorite female golfer.
